About me
I thought I was an essayist. But I gave a few days of writing time over to a new genre and never quite stopped. It has become my first YA novel and I am still at work on it. I love spending time with teenagers, hearing what they think, and continuing to learn. I am lucky enough to live with three teens right now.
My essays have appeared in a range of literary journals and publications. I also co-founded and served as managing editor for The Normal School, a literary magazine. After years of loving labor on the paper editions of The Normal School, I stepped back from it in 2019 as the magazine moved to a student-led, digital-only format. In my early career, I worked as a copywriter at a small advertising agency. I completed my BA at the University of Michigan and my MFA at Colorado State University. I also did graduate work in film and video at University of Denver.
I love to ski and snowboard. I cook a ton. I appreciate great books, live music, great graphic design, street art, street fashion, fireworks, and holiday lights.
